"Woven Complexity" - Achieving a delicate balance between the complexity of the natural topography and the new institution is one of the primary goals of the design. This goal is implemented at multiple scales: from the overall campus organization to the individual building forms and finally the material composition of each facade and programmed space.

"Intellectual Communities" - Even with extraordinary advances in technology changing the way we learn and teach, students and faculty still greatly value the sense of community that is experienced on a college campus. We conceived a master plan concept that weaves together living and learning environments intended to create a vibrant community where new ideas can flourish and be brought to life reinforcing the university's mission, curriculum, and multi-disciplinary collaborations and intellectual creativities.

The buildings are interactive environments that contain flexible classrooms, faculty offices, and informal learning and social spaces. Variety of seating areas and cafes are located along the promenade paths to encourage interaction and to extend the learning experience beyond the classroom walls. The Library building is the signature building on the campus main green quad and its form is the literal interpretation of the sweeping transition from the upper quad level of the campus down to the heart of the campus at the Academic Promenade.

At a regional scale, the new campus establishes itself as a landmark and a catalyst for higher quality Living/Learning institutions within an environmentally oriented campus landscape. Our proposal counters the typical campus planning model in China of low-density buildings spread across vast open landscapes by concentrating mixed program density along the centrally located "Academic Promenade" fronting the site water feature amenity weaving the campus elements together. Pedestrian bridges across the water link amenities and program forming a central hub of student life activity.
